Closed-Form Direction-Finding Using Vectorial Uniform Circular Array

Abstract: We propose a fast uni-source direction-finding (DF) algorithm for a uniform circular array (UCA) of horizontally oriented dipole antennas, as conventional searching-based DF methods suffer from heavy computational burden. The method utilizes the centro-symmetry of sensor outputs to get a group of direction-of-arrival (DOA) dependent equations, and then the DOA of signal is obtained in a closed-form after a disambiguation processing. Simulation results show decent accuracy and the significantly improved efficiency of the proposed method compared with the searching-based approach.
